Features of the VITA Airtex wrist and thumb brace
The VITA Airtex Fabric 03-2-019 extends from the lower forearm to the palm and supports the thumb with a separate strap. The other four fingers remain uncovered.
The aluminium palmar stay follows the palm side of the hand and limits wrist movement.
Adjustable hook-and-loop straps let you fit the brace around the forearm and wrist, while the separate thumb strap adjusts the fit around the thumb.
The polyamide brace has a breathable inner lining on the side that rests against the hand.
Intended use
The manufacturer lists De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, wrist and thumb tendinitis, and thumb injuries among the indications.
The manufacturer also lists conservative or postoperative rehabilitation of the wrist extensors, thumb phalanx fractures, scaphoid fractures and scaphoid osteochondritis. For fractures or postoperative use, the treating clinician determines the choice of brace and wearing schedule.
Frequently asked questions
What does the separate thumb strap do?
The palmar stay supports the wrist, while the separate strap adjusts the fit around the thumb. This feature is worth looking for when support at both points has been recommended, as may be the case with De Quervain’s tenosynovitis.
How does the Airtex differ from the VITA Standard Thumb?
Both braces support the wrist and thumb. The Airtex comes in S and M based on wrist circumference, while the Standard Thumb comes in one adjustable size. Both models are available in right and left versions.
Should I choose S or M if my wrist measures exactly 19 cm?
The manufacturer includes 19 cm in both size ranges. Measure the wrist you will wear the brace on, wrapping the tape around it without pulling tight. If it still measures 19 cm, contact us for help checking the fit before choosing a size.
